There are a number of things you can do to help relieve the pain if it is not serious. If you just pulled a muscle or strained it from twisting, then you can get relief by lying on the floor with your feet up on a chair with pillows under your hips, or just lay on the floor with pillows under your knees and neck. You can also get a heating pad to help relieve some of the symptoms. Taking over the counter medicines like Tylenol or ibuprofen can help to reduce swelling, which can relieve some of the pain. You can also try to push things instead of pulling them if you have to move something. If you are going to be sitting for long periods of time, for example at a computer, then try a break by getting up and stretching your back and arms. Do a few bends and squats. Try not to wear high heels this puts a lot of strain on your back muscles. Exercising is probably one of the best things to keep your back strong and flexible, especially swimming. At times, it does relieve back pain as well. Many people have said Yoga is very helpful in dealing with the pain.
