Migraine
Headaches
Migraine headaches are one of the most common complaints seen in hospitals and
clinics, today. This type of headache manifests itself generally as severe pain on either
side or, both sides of the head and is mainly focussed around the temples. Some
people
feel migraine headache symptoms around the eyes and ears as well. The pain
associated with Migraines can make
the eyes sensitive to light and sound, it can also cause nausea and vomiting
in some cases. There are many people who get migraine headaches from lots of
different causes such as Alcohol, smoking,
certain foods, lack of sleep, loud sounds, bright lights and even stress.
It has been said in many circles that there is no cure for migraine headaches, but there
are ways to help to relieve the pain and reduce the symptoms of the migraine headache at
the time. If you have severe migraine headaches then your best bet is to make
an appointment with your doctor. He can suggest different things for you to
try to relieve the pain or if necessary prescribe suitable medications. Make sure before
you see the doctor that you write down a few important points such as how often you get migraines,
how long they last, where the pain is, if you have a family history of migraines,
and other symptoms you may have during your migraine. This will assist your doctor
in understanding your migraines and will help him to come up with a plan for
treating them.
Another way to relieve your migraines is to use over the counter medicines
which are available at your local pharmacy. Only do this if you have migraines on
a regular basis. Note: over the counter medicines are not a permanent way of
treating migraines but may offer some relief and sometimes help to make the
migraine go away temporarily. You can also try to establish what triggers your
migraines and then try to avoid whatever that trigger is. If you learn that stress
related situations are causing your migraines, how about learning how to de-stress;
Meditation
and Yoga may be helpful here.
Allergies can also be at the root of your migraines, if this is the case
you will need to watch out for things that you are allergic to such as cat dander,
smoke, or pollen. Migraines can also be caused by poor vision, indicated
by getting symptoms around the eyes, If that is the case then you
might want to check with your Optician. In some cases, warm cloths on the eyes, or the back of the neck, and
even
a warm shower can help to relieve the pain. One other natural remedy that may work to
temporary relieve the pain from migraines is drinking a cup of coffee, in fact
many of the migraine prescription medications do in fact contain caffeine
which is thought to relieve symptoms.
